About Us
Have you ever needed Fajr or Maghrib for your own suburb and found only a Facebook post from last Ramadan? Or a national app that shows one time for the whole city?
This site was built to fix that. It gives you accurate prayer times for 139 Sydney suburbs, a directory of 84 local mosques and the Islamic dates that matter through the year.
Why we publish suburb by suburb
Sydney is wide. Fajr and Maghrib in Penrith do not fall on the same minute as Fajr and Maghrib in Bondi. The gap is small, usually a minute or two, but it grows the further apart two suburbs sit.
So we calculate every suburb separately from its own coordinates. The time on the page is the time for where you actually stand, not an average for the city.
How the times are calculated
Every time follows the Muslim World League method, with Fajr at 18 degrees below the horizon and Isha at 17 degrees. Each one is computed fresh for that page's own coordinates using Jean Meeus's astronomical formulas. Nothing is copied from a static table.
Asr defaults to the Shafi'i convention. A Hanafi toggle is available wherever times appear, because the two can differ by 30 to 60 minutes. Daylight saving is handled automatically, so the times stay correct through the AEST and AEDT switch each year.
One honest limit matters here. These are calculated Adhan times, not the Iqamah your local mosque announces. Iqamah is set by each mosque, so please confirm it with yours.
How we check mosque details
Every mosque listed here has had its address, phone number and denomination checked by hand. We compare each mosque's own information against independent local directories wherever we can. Details we cannot confirm are left off the site rather than guessed.
Spotted something wrong, such as a moved mosque, an outdated Jumu'ah time or an address typo? Tell us through the contact page. Say what looks wrong and, if you have it, where the correct detail comes from.
Every report is checked against the mosque's own information or an independent directory before anything changes.
Who this site is for
Sydney's Muslim community is one of the most diverse in Australia. It includes Lebanese, Turkish, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Afghan and Indonesian families, Sunni and Shia, Hanafi and Shafi'i. This site is built to serve all of them.
It is for the commuter checking Asr before leaving work. It is for the family new to a suburb who need the nearest mosque and its Jumu'ah time. It is also for anyone planning around Ramadan and Eid dates for the year ahead.
